Go WOMBATS and Go YANKEES!

Can't believe I just said Go Yankees! Well, that is Ian's baseball team this year and he is wearing #4! He wanted to know who has that number on the Major League team and my mom and grandfather told him that Lou Gehrig had that number and because he was soooooooooooooo good the Yankees decided to retire it, so nobody can ever wear that number for the Yankees. LOL LOL Ian was beaming from ear to ear! He had his first practice tonight and I missed it since I was with Gavin. Cailean is the assistant coach and it sounded like all went well. Unfortunately the field was too far from the soccer field, so I couldn't even get a glimpse.

Gavin had his first practice as a Wombat and he will be sporting the #13! He is beyond excited and finally has his very own jersey. My grandparents stayed put at Gavin's soccer field along with my Aunt Sandi. My mom and aunt went back and forth taking pictures of both kids! Thanks!!!

Yes, I'm the forgetful parent. I almost cried. We're 1/2 way to the park and I forgot my camera at home. Soooooooooo not happy. Mom and Aunt Sandi came through, so when they email me the pics I will post them.

Okay, we have LOTS of stuff to do before tomorrow morning. I'm off to work very early and then pick up the boys before getting home at 12:30 and getting on the road shortly after that.

Can't wait for DISNEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Spring Lunch Bunch, Spring Learning Experience and Friends

The week before spring break has been hectic, but a lot of fun. Gavin's pre-school had a fundraiser lunch called a "Lunch Bunch" on Monday. We have pizza, fruit and dessert with all the kids and families of the pre-school during an extended lunch. Each class put together a basket that are raffled off to raise money for the school. Gavin's class was fortunate to put together a Sports Basket. How perfect! Anyway, I didn't do the redeye here to fix it, but all the kids come out together and then they say grace as a group. Gavin was a bit nervous.

This morning was Ian's Spring Learning Experience. I've been able to help with the Fall and Winter ones and they are a lot of fun. They have "centers" and at each center is a project related to the season. In this picture, Ian was making a butterfly out of a coffee filter, markers with some water and a clip.

Ian tricked me...he pretended that he was going to eat his paintbrush! At this station he painted a clay pot. He was quite the artist!

Ben and Luke came over to our house to play for a little bit. Ian and Luke had fun with the track ball game.

They even made a hopscotch.

Gavin was VIP at school today and he took his "soccer gear" for his show and tell. Oh yes...his soccer bag, soccer ball, cleats, shinguards and soccer socks. He didn't pack his shorts or shirt. I don't think he thought they would be cool enough! LO L

His first practice is TOMORROW! Hard to believe! He has been looking forward to this day for quite awhile. Ian will have his first practice at the same exact time! The good thing is that it's at the same park. Cailean will be at the baseball field (he's now an assistant coach) and I'll be at the soccer field, but making sure I watch some baseball from there, too. :)

Aunt Sandi is flying down from NY and will witness this big event!!!

It's Spring!

We had awesome weather this weekend!!! Saturday included lots of yardwork and taking care of some stuff around the house. I ran up to the North Raleigh area for a baby shower in the late afternoon and then shortly after I got home we all headed down to the Nelsons for dinner, drinks and enjoyed the nice weather! The kids had a blast and ran and ran and ran. Ian and Gavin were wiped out when we got home.

This morning we did the usual church, Sunday School and Bob Evans with the family. Ian and I took off to Target to get a birthday gift and some other items while Gavin went home with my mom and grandparents. I took Ian to a birthday party at a bakery. What a great idea! They made cinnamon rolls and cookies. They were delicious. :) I dropped him off at the party and then ran an errand before getting Gavin from mom and then headed back to the party. Gavin was pretty excited to find an extra slice of cake that had his name all over it!

So, this morning I received an email from Ian's baseball coach. He is on the Yankees! UGH. If you know me well, you'll need this is hard for me to digest because I've always been a Mets fan! My mom, aunts, uncles, grandparents, some cousins, my brother in law and friends love the Yankees. So, they are all thrilled about this and laugh because I have to cheer for the Yankees. LOL Plus, we are going to catch the Yankees/Braves spring training game at Disney next week. I just can't get away from the Yankees!!!!!!!!!!!

This Thursday is a very big day for Gavin. It's his FIRST practice on a team sport!!!!! He has soccer practice at 5:45pm. Guess what else is happening this Thursday at 5:45pm? Ian starts his baseball season! The good thing is that they play at the same park. This is all the night before we leave for our Florida vacation, too!!!

The Leprechauns Came to the Turner House!!!!!!!

Thanks to Mrs. Geiger, Ian's Kindergarten teacher last year, leprechauns are a pretty big deal in Ian's life! He remembers exactly what happened in his classroom and once again, they struck not only in his first grade classroom, but at home as well. Here is what happened...

So, Gavin and I pick up Luke and Ian from school today and we are driving to the bowling alley for a little outing. They tell us all about what the leprechauns did at their school...in their classrooms and to themselves. Gavin tells them how he found gold at his school, too!

Luke tells them that a leprechaun was at his house this morning and turned their milk green! Then he asks Ian if the leprechauns went to his house. Ian responds,

"Leprechauns don't come to our house because we're Scottish."

OH MY GOSH!!!! WHAT A LINE!!!!!!!!!

So, after bowling we come home and play outside. Cailean gets home and he watches the boys while I run inside. I couldn't disappoint them at all! So...

I turned over Gavin's chair at the table. I went into Ian's room and stripped the sheets, turned his laundry basket upside down with his dirty clothes all over the floor and put some books on the floor. I did the same in Gavin's room.

Later on we head back inside. They see Gavin's chair. The three of them yell, "THE LEPRECHAUNS WERE HERE!!!!!!!!!"

They are walking down the hallway and notice Ian's room. They were seriously flipping out! It was hysterical!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Then, they check Gavin's room and were screaming, "Wow!!! Look what they did!!!!"

They had to redo their facial expressions for the camera!

They decide to check the refrigerator. They see a "to go cup" from The Loop Restaurant. Ian says, "The leprechaun even went to The Loop to get a drink!"

Ian!!!!!! You guys went there last night and that's dad's!!!!!

Gavin finds his pot of gold he made at school today and says, "Good thing they didn't take my gold!"

St. Patrick's Day!

Tuesday night was a lot of fun! Cailean and the kids met Tom, Ella and Sophia at The Loop for dinner while I met up with Lori and Georgi at an Italian restaurant before heading into downtown to watch the Little House on the Prairie Musical. It was great! We had soooooo much fun and at times we were like three 10 year olds!!! Our goal was to meet Melissa Gilbert (she played Laura Ingalls on the tv show) who played Ma in the musical. Well, GOAL MET! After the show, we waited by the back door entrance and we not only met her, but she signed our playbill!!!!!!!!!! So yes, we were very excited!!!!!!! Cailean, Tom and the kids had fun from what I heard. The four kids get along sooooo well!

I spent quite a few hours at Ian's school. It's Teacher Appreciation Week, so we delivered the bagels and cream cheese that Panera Bread donated and then Ian distributed the cards to his specials teachers and his sub before school actually started. Then, I took Gavin to pre-school and then volunteered in Ian's classroom. It was my first time with the sub and it went great. Ian's teacher had a baby boy over the weekend and is on maternity now until May. The PTA found volunteers to do recess duty, so the teachers could have an extended lunch and go off campus. So, Gavin and I were back at Kingswood doing that. This afternoon Ian's friend, Luke, will come home with us for a few hours. Even though it's nice out, we decided to hit the bowling alley for a fun activity! Thanks to Uncle Neal, Aunt Megan and Neal Thomas for the gift certificate to make that happen!!!

Gavin went to work with me yesterday for about 4 hours or so. He kept himself occupied the entire time and I was able to get a lot done. No students are around since it's spring break. He enjoys going to NCSU with me and he talked up a storm with my coworker, Megan.

So, we continue to stay busy! The boys are doing awesome. They are having a lot of fun and are excited to get outside to play. Gavin's handwriting is wonderful and we're so proud of him. Ian is working at telling time and has been doing awesome at that!

Green Thumb and Sports

The boys are starting their own garden. This is a project with father and sons! :) So, the start of it all will be in the "hot tub" room. This is my stamping room and where we put stuff. We don't use the hot tub. I know, but we just don't. So, maybe in a few weeks you'll see everything growing and just maybe the kids will eat these veggies!

Now it's Ian's turn to start putting the soil in there. Notice the tooth missing? That was a big deal this week!

The 2009-10 Armadillos! It was our last game on Saturday, so a group picture was in order. The kids were awesome and we had such a great time! Cailean actually got all the kids (along with Gavin, my mom and grandparents) to sign a basketball for me. I don't know when he did this, but what a great idea!!!! I let them hold the "team" basketball in the middle of the picture. Ian and a few others will move up to the 7/8 year old group and I'm pretty sure Rob and I will co-coach again. No screens are allowed in this age group, so I'm still safe. hee hee

Saturday afternoon I spent a few hours with my friend, Jessica. We hit the mall and a few other places and had a lot of fun! I haven't shopped with a friend since I moved here and it was great to not have to rush through stores and we actually got to look around!

Wednesday

Time sure does fly! Just wanted to give an update on what we've all been up to the last few days.

I think Ian and Gavin grew another inch last night. I'm serious. It is absolutely crazy! I am not really into buying Ian new jeans right now because shorts season is just around the corner. But, I might have to do something!

Both had dentist appointments yesterday afternoon and did outstanding. They both look great and Ian actually lost his top front tooth yesterday morning. The tooth fairy failed last night/this morning, but pulled through at the end. Close call on that one, but mission was accomplished.

Gavin and I enjoyed an afternoon at the park Monday after school. He rode his bike around the trail and I tried to catch up to him. I'll just start calling him Flash. Then, he played on the playground for awhile. It was in the 70's and it was beautiful!

Cailean and Ian hosted their Y-Guides tribe last night. I believe it was a success and I'm glad they do it once a year. LOL I had a PTA meeting last night and we finalized the plans for Teacher Appreciation Week that I take the lead on. Gavin hung out with Ben and Luke at their house with their dad. He had so much fun and told me to get him at 9:45 because that's his bedtime. Yea, okay! LOL

Early release day for Ian today and it's also the teacher luncheon that I'll help put together. Hopefully families have come through and sent in items for this event.

Cailean has a work meeting tonight, so we'll probably make a visit to see the fam in Morrisville.

I am looking forward to Disney so much. It's getting closer and closer. Thank goodness!!!

And finally...I'll officially have a sister-in-law in October! My brother proposed to Alissa Sunday afternoon. The wedding is set for October 15, 2010. :)

Basketball, Basketball and More Basketball

The boys and I have been very busy this weekend. Since Cailean is at the bike races in FL this weekend, Gavin had to spend the afternoon with me at work. This was a real treat for him and he does such a great job. He kept himself occupied in my office while I was in the next room working with a student. When we left work, we went home to feed Cody and then pick up Ian from school. Then, headed back to NC State to catch some of the baseball game. Boy, when the sun went down it was COLD!! We lasted less than one hour and headed home for some dinner and a movie.

I thought they would want to watch a long movie. Nope. They chose "The Three Stooges." Are you kidding me??? My brother and dad would have been thrilled to watch it with them! haha We made some popcorn, sat on the couch and laughed and laughed.

Saturday morning we took our time to get ready. I was on a mission to do a lot of cleaning and laundry and I followed through! :) We ran some errands and then headed over to the center to catch the game before our noon game.

Ian did such a great job in today's game. I was so proud of him! He loves sports and really gets into it. I was proud of Gavin for sitting patiently in the stands with his Mimi, Grammie and Pop-pop and cheering on Ian's team.

After the game, we had our awards ceremony. Next Saturday is our last game (a make up game), but we decided to do trophies today because we thought the other teams wouldn't rush to get a classroom. Smart thinking, eh?!

If you know me well, then you would know that I do not like to talk in front of a lot of people. I am more of a behind-the-scenes type of person. So, this always stresses me out. I believe in this picture, I was waiting for the kids to sit back down on the floor because I had them thank their parents for getting them to the practices and games! As you can see, I had my little helper next to me!!! What a cutie. Too bad he has to wait through one more basketball season (next year) before he can play basketball!! He is sooo ready.

We had such a long, fun day with errands, game and grocery shopping all over Morrisville. Before dinner we watched the end of the Syracuse game and then the NCSU women's basketball game. We concluded our evening with some Popeye clips on tv. This is a photo I took on the couch tonight! Poor Gavin didn't get all the way in here.

Looking forward to Sunday. We'll be at the RBC for the last regular season men's basketball game for NC State in the afternoon and Cailean gets home.

I'm awful at titles

We actually haven't had too much going on this week. Tuesday night we had our last basketball practice and we had to miss Dr. Seuss' birthday party at Ian's school since it was at the same time.

I was looking soooo forward to Wednesday morning. I usually volunteer in Ian's classroom, which I love to do. I actually had the morning off from volunteering, so I had a few things I wanted to do (for myself!!!) before meeting Lori to plan our friend's baby shower. Well, the kids had a TWO HOUR DELAY because they thought the roads would be slick from our dusting of snow. So, that meant Gavin went to school at 10:15am (1 hour delay for him) and Ian went at 10:45am and I was meeting Lori at 11:15. So, I guess someone was trying to tell me I shouldn't be pampering myself!!

Gavin's friend, Katie, came home with us after school for a few hours. Miss Cindy told me that the two were very excited for their playdate. We had a lot of fun and Gavin loved showing Katie all of his toys and games. After we picked up Ian from school, we decorated the St. Patrick's Day sugar cookies I had made earlier. They purposely broke off some of the stems, so they could eat them!!!

Not sure our plans for the weekend other than Ian's basketball game at noon on Saturday and the NCSU basketball game on Sunday at 2pm. The boys really want to get to a NCSU baseball game this weekend, so we'll do that Friday or Saturday. We need to get some groceries in the house, too!

Goodbye February!

Hello March!! Here are are a few things we did over the weekend. On Friday we had a baby shower luncheon for my coworker Megan (on the left) and Saturday night was my other coworker's bachelorette party (Heather...on the right). Both events were a lot of fun!!

Friday night we took Ian and Gavin to...

One hour before the circus started they let everyone on the floor. You could try out circus outfits, talk to the clowns and have pictures taken it. As you can see in the picture it was VERY crowded, but still neat to go on the floor.

The end of the circus. Ian and Cailean recieved patches to put on their Y-Guide vests and we sat with some of his tribe members.

Saturday morning we went to Bond Park (near our house) to meet up with other Y-Guides and help clean up the park. Well, this park is kept very clean to begin with, so there wasn't much cleaning up to do. They were able to earn green claws for Y-Guides and the kids did a great job picking up trash.

After the park clean up we had Ian's 11am basketball game and then Lexi's birthday party for Gavin at Monkey Joe's. On Sunday Ian FINALLY had his pie making lesson. He has been asking mom for months about making a pumpkin pie together, so that's what they did!

Looking forward to seeing what March brings. I know one thing...SPRING BREAK AT DISNEY!!
