Hi,
Cailean, Ian, Gavin and I are coordinating a drive for a non-profit children's charity called Pajama Pals. A family in Wake County started this charity in March 2008 to help children in our area to be warmer at night and to have books at home. They have donated to various Cary elementary schools, local hospitals, victims of fire and social services offices.

Weather
Well, it should be interesting what we see this weekend. I can't control Mother Nature, so I just need to go with the flow I guess. We are expected to get snow, sleet, freezing rain, etc tonight through tomorrow. Ian's baseball clinic has already been rescheduled for next Saturday afternoon. I'm sure his basketball game at 11am tomorrow will not happen, but as of now it is. My two aunts are expected to fly back home on Sunday. Then, Cailean's parents are supposed to be driving up on Monday from Florida. So, I guess I did something to Mother Nature because she sure is not helping me out right now with our plans!!! It would be nice to have the kids in the snow, but not this weekend!!! haha
I'm off to work now (running a little late) and then I'll be home late this afternoon and off to the Y to walk the track. Then, after that, It'll be the sit and wait situation wondering what we'll end up with in our area!

Are you keeping up with us?
The kids were home on Monday due to a teacher workday. I had to wake them up (yes, on their day off) and take them to the babysitter's house and I had to work at NCSU for a few hours. We came home for lunch and then they played at the Y, so I could walk the track.
Ian went back to school today and Gavin spent the morning with the babysitter. This afternoon we stayed at the house and I did some cleaning and laundry. Gavin enjoyed playing the Wii and with some of his toys before we picked Ian up from Kingswood and then headed to mom's. They went with her to get my two aunts while I took my grandmother for her hair appointment.
Not sure what the weekend will bring. The weather states wintry mix, but I sure hope not. I want Ian to have his basketball game and his baseball clinic. At least his basketball game! So cross your fingers that we don't get any crazy weather in our area!!

The Ongoing Birthday!
Last week was his party, Friday were cupcakes with his classmates and today was with family on his real birthday! Cailean and I met in Gavin's classroom yesterday and we shared green cupcakes with sprinkles with his classmates. In the last year Gavin has become extremely shy and although he acts like a ham around us...he is very quiet and doesn't like to be the center of attention. I guess he has some stage freight or something, but we just keep plugging away with it!

This morning we were at Ian's basketball game and then while Ian and Cailean were at a Y-Guides event in downtown Raleigh, Gavin and I cheered on the Wolfpack at the swim meet. It was our first one of the year and it was definitely very close. Gavin definitely enjoyed watching the races against Clemson.We went down to my mom's shortly after that and had an early dinner followed by an unusual birthday dessert request. He opened up a few more gifts and he LOVED the NFL gift bag that had the "G" team (Green Bay), the Jets and the Patriots! My grandparents gave him this Alvin and the Chipmunks musical card and he was playing it by opening and closing it. LOL
His Grammie made him a new bathrobe and it matches the theme of his birthday party...bowling! He is showing everyone that he is FOUR years old now.
He wanted vanilla ice cream with sprinkles, twizzlers and skittles for his birthday dessert. So, that's what he got! He fell asleep on the way home and went right to bed while Ian stayed up to watch the rest of the NCSU basketball game.

Birthday Party Weekend
First...Happy 37th Birthday to my brother! It was his day on Friday, January 15. :)
Gavin will turn FOUR next Saturday, but we had his birthday party this weekend. We had a total of 12 kids, lots of family and friends celebrate with us! The Benes' drove up from South Carolina and my aunt, uncle and cousin drove down from New York. Saturday morning Ian had quite the fan club (13 family members) there at his basketball game and then we had Gavin's birthday party at the bowling alley.
Mom totally came through with the cake! A bowling lane with a bowling ball that hit all the pins down. The pins were actually made by my Uncle Mickey, which were sugar cookies.

Wednesday
Since I blogged last week...
Ian had his first basketball game of the season last Saturday. His regular fan club was in attendance to watch the debut. We were all very impressed watching the team. They high fived each other when a teammate scored, they were passing, they were shooting and they looked like they were having a lot of fun on the court. Ian, was unbelieveable. He LOVES sports and especially basketball! There were quite a few times when Ian had some breakaways. So he is dribbling down the court...nobody around him and then misses the basket like in a layup spot. So, I told him to go to his spot. Well...he has his spot! The left elbow part of the free throw line. Probably could easily be the 3 point range area in the 5-6 year old league, if we had that range! Sank one every single time. Missed the layups (close to the basket), but could make the other shots. I looked at Rob, who was helping me with the bench, and I said, "He plays JUST like my brother!" Matt kept missing those lay ups, but dominated at the 3 point range! My mom was one proud Mimi in the stands because parents from the other team were making comments about "that tall, blonde kid on the other team" and how their kids needed to guard him. hehe
Cailean and Gavin stayed for the first half, but then Cailean took him to a birthday party at WiiiBounce. Gavin was pretty excited and it turned out that the majority of his classmates were all there, so he had a grand ole time!
Ian and I met them at the birthday party and then I went to a baby shower. I hadn't been to a baby shower in a long time, so it was really fun!!! Actually, I'll be attending at least 2 more baby showers in the next few months. Yay!
We're glad we had three big events on Saturday and it all worked out that we could attend each one.
We continue the daily routine for morning prep as we head off to school. Ian makes a comment that his tummy hurts every single day he has to go to school. Gavin yells at me that I'm not going fast enough to get to his school. haha Yesterday morning Gavin had a playdate with his buddy at our house and then we were off to the sitter for a few hours as I headed into work.
We're headed into a fun-filled weekend. Even though Gavin's birthday isn't until January 23, we are having his party this Saturday at the local bowling alley. My cousin, her husband and two kids are driving up from South Carolina. Also, my aunt, uncle and another cousin are driving down from NY for the weekend. Can't wait to see everyone!
They all leave on Sunday at different times and then friends from Vermont arrive on Monday and stay until Thursday. Then, two more aunts arrive the following week and then Cailean's parents come for a visit. Looking forward to all the relatives coming this way.

The Boys Continue to Surprise Us
Ian and Gavin definitely do new things each and every day. Gavin has been able to write his name using all capital letters, but just in the last week or so I showed him how to write the capital G and lower case avin. It didn't take him long to pick up on how to do it and he will sit at the table and practice. He has a lot of workbooks, so he likes to work in them when Ian does his homework.
Gavin wants to do everything Ian does. Ian reads a lot to us at night and now we take turns with Gavin. He'll look at the picture and tell us what is happening in the picture. Wow! He will shoot basket after basket after basket in the hallway with our basketball hoop. At the Y when his group is in the gym, he throws that ball up to the hoop over and over and over.
Ian is not shy in academics or athletics. Cailean, Gavin and I were fortunate enough to attend a Writer's Celebration in his class this afternoon. Each student shared one story that he/she had written and drew pictures about. There were a few other parents there as well and Mrs. Harris pulled out a name and it was Ian. So, he was the first one to go and he did a fabulous job! I still believe he got these genes from my dad because no way in heck could Cailean have done this or me! In fact, I remember I would laugh when I had to give speeches in front of my classmates. His story was about the time he went down the waterslide at the Cary YMCA. I was shocked he wrote about this because it was over two years ago!!!! He must be traumatized by the event and I remember when he did go down the slide. Anyway, he talked clearly, he thanked a classmate who gave him a compliment and we were just so proud of him. I was equally proud when a kid in his class wrote about meeting Ian and thinking how awesome he was. So sweet!!! He raised his hand a few times to share a question or a compliment to his peers. As Mrs. Harris tells the class, "Say it loud...say it proud!"
Since Gavin got new sneakers for Chrismas with ties and no velcro, Ian has really enjoyed trying to teach Gavin how to tie his own shoes. He is actually pretty patient with his little brother.
Ian is very confident on the court or the field. I'll talk about basketball since we're in that season now. We had a little scrimmage at practice the other night and he had quite a few "legal" blocks, a few breakaways and enjoys the sport.

HELLO 2010!
I took a bit of a break from blogging. I've been sick for the last week and haven't been up to doing too much. I managed to get myself to see the doctor this morning, so now I'm on the road to recovery! Thank goodness for antibiotics!
Today the kids went back to school. On the way to Kingswood Ian commented that he seems to always have a belly ache when he heads off to school. :( Then he asked if June 1st was his last day of school for the year. Ahhh...poor kid.
On the other side of the backseat in my car is the almost 4 year old Gavin who was soooo excited to go back to school. Ian did not want to deal with his excitement! When I dropped Gavin off, he took off. The teacher said to me, "Wow, he is ready!" He sure was ready. He was wearing his new #16 NC State football jersey and his new winter hat while wearing his new red backpack and his new sneakers!
It's time to get refocused. I misread a few emails from the last few weeks and it caused some laughter at the dinner table tonight! We took some guppies and snails home from Ian's class at the start of break. I really thought Mrs. Harris' email said that it was just temporary. So, we took them back into the classroom this morning. She looked at me funny, but I didn't say anything. At dinner I asked if everyone returned them. That is when Ian yelled and said we could keep them. So, I dug into my email file and sure enough...I misread the email! MAJOR oops!!!!!
We have lots coming up and it seems like the month of January is packed with basketball, birthdays, visitors, meetings and so on. I'm already trying to think about our Disney trip over spring break!!!! Less than three months! :)
